DofE at Beaumont School

Welcome to the Beaumont School Duke of Edinburgh's Award Blog.

Beaumont School act as a DofE centre that runs the Bronze, Silver and Gold levels of the programme. Ms Dickson coordinates DofE at Beaumont School working alongside other Beaumont staff and parent volunteers who give up their time to guide and supervise participants through their awards.

If you are interested in applying for a place on the Award at Beaumont School it is recommended that you take the time to research and really understand what is required to achieve each level. Completing your DofE award at any level is great fun and well worth while but you must consider that it requires hard work and commitment.

Information regarding the application process for a participant place at Beaumont School will be provided at the end of each academic year, most likely in June for Bronze and Silver and September for Gold. We are limited in terms of staffing and resources and therefore unfortunately we have to limit the number of participants accepted at each level. If an application is unsuccessful it is of course possible for students to complete their DofE at other approved centres.

This blog is good place to start and will provide you with information relevant to participants completing their DofE at Beaumont School. If you would like further information DofE provide a very useful website at http://www.dofe.org/

General Information:

A DofE programme is a real adventure from beginning to end.  It doesn’t matter who you are or where you’re from.  You just need to be aged between 13 and 24 and realise there’s more to life than sitting on a sofa watching life pass you by.

Levels

You can do programmes at three levels, which when completed, lead to a Bronze, Silver or Gold Duke of Edinburgh's Award.

Sections

You achieve your Award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections (five if you're going for Gold) - Volunteering, Physical, Skills, Expedition and for Gold, a Residential.
You'll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills, going on an expedition and taking part in a residential activity (Gold only).

Your programme can be full of activities and projects that motivate you, and along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
